WHAT-IF SCENARIOS

These scenarios represent situations that might have been if either different
force types were employed or a different strategy had been adopted.

Opposed Landing. Historically the landings in San
Carlos Water were unopposed. The only Argentine presence was on Fanning Head and
they were dealt with by a combination of naval gunfire and special forces troops.
The Argentine commander did not consider the British to have the capability to
cover the distance from the west coast of East Falklands over land to Stanley.
It was expected that when the British arrived, they would land as near as
possible to Stanley. Therefore the only troops deployed to the area where the
British did land were frpm an observation post manned by troops from Combat Team Eagle.
The vast majority of the Argentine Garrison was deployed around Stanley to counter
the expected British landings there. This scenario explores what might have happened
if Argentine troops had been deployed to the San Carlos Water area. Played as
the British.

Counterattack at Goose Green. After the
battle a company of 1/7 Gurkha Rifles was stationed at Goose Green to allow
2 Para to rejoin 3 Commando Brigade. With battle now joined the Argentines gave
serious consideration to taking offensive action. One plan proposed an airborne
deployment of 4 Airborne Brigade from the mainland to drop on Wickham Heights.
This would have put Argentine troops on high ground on 3 Commando Brigades Left
flank and 5 Infantry Brigades right flank, splitting the British front. Fortunately
the lack of Argentine air superiority meant this operation was really a non-starter. A more viable operation, Operation Buzon (Mailbox) was put
forward on the 10th June. This was a three phase plan. Phase one proposed that 5 Inf
Regt with 4 Airborne Brigade attack the British beachhead. Phase two called
for Task Group Reconquest to attack Darwin and phase three was for Army Group
Stanley to counterattack the British now facing the Outer Defence Zone. This
operation needed assault ships, there were none, and air superiority, which the
Argentines did not have. So again it did not happen. This scenario supposes that
a limited counterattack was possible against Goose Green. Played as the
Argentines.

Gurkha Defence at Goose Green. This is the Counterattack at Goose Green scenario flipped. In this Scenario the
British forces are not locked in place at the beginning. 30 minutes ago one of your
patrols saw enemy troops landing by helicopter. You have contacted Bde H.Q. and
the Bde Reserve is on its way. It will be with you in about two and a half hours.
You must hold out till then. Played as the British.

Beachhead Attack Assumes that Operation
Buzon took place. In this scenario elements of 5 Infantry Regiment are deployed
against British forces in the San Carlos area. Played as the Argentines

Breaching The Wire looks at the possible
outcome of a British Armoured Battle Group attacking an enemy blocking position
with engineer obstacles in place. If the British can punch through the war will
be over quickly. Played as the British.

Counterattack on Mount Tumbledown (1). This
scenario expands on the Historical Tumbledown scenario. This event actually
came very close to happening. During the closing stages of the Battle for Mount
Tumbledown the local Argentine commander requested permission to lauch a
counterattack against the Scots Guards. He was refused permisson and the
counterattack never happened. This scenario assumes that the local Argentine
commander was allowed to mount his counterattack.Played as the British.

Counterattack on Mount Tumbledown (2). This
is the Counterattack on Mount Tumbledown (1) scenario flipped from the British to the Argentine side and expands on the Historical Tumbledown scenario. This event actually
came very close to happening. At around 0800hrs on the morning of 14 June
Commander Robacio of the 5th Marine Bn was organizing a counterattack. The unit
involved was O CoY, 5 Marine Bn commanded by Captain Quiroga. Before Commander
Robacio could complete his preparation he received orders from Brigadier General
Joffre's Chief of Staff, Colonel Aguilar to evacuate Mount Tumbledown. The
planned counterattack never happened. This scenario assumes that Commander
Robacio's counterattack takes place. In this scenario some of the friendly
forces on Mount Tumbledown are not locked in place at the start of the game.
Feel free to make changes to the deployments if you wish. Played as the
Argentines.

Armoured Recce. The terrain in the
Falkland Islands was not suitable for the deployment of heavy armour. This
scenario along with ARMOURED ATTACK and MECHANIZED ATTACK looks at what might
have been if the terrain was suitable and both sides deployed heavy armour.
This, the first of the three scenarios, looks at a possible clash between the
screening force of the Argentine defenders and the recce elements of a British
armoured battle group. Played as the British.

Armoured Attack, the second of three
scenarios follows on from the recce mission. The Argentine screen has been
destroyed and the British armoured battle group commander is now going to probe
forward with his heavy armour to locate the enemy FEBA (Forward Edge of Battle
Area). Will the Argentines commit their heavy armour in a tank v tank battle?
Played as the British.

Mechanized Attack, the third of
three scenarios. The surviving British armour and recce elements have reunited
with the infantry element of the battle group. The surviving Argentine armour has fallen
back into the main defence belt. What will the British battle group commander do
next? Played as the British.
