ATF: Armored Task Force

Command a combined arms battalion task force in command real time, at a level of fidelity built for professional trainers.

Armored Task Force puts you in command of a US Army combined arms task force — armour, mechanized infantry, engineers, artillery and scouts — fighting in real time on real terrain.

Four campaigns take you from a force-on-force rotation at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, out into Death Valley, across to a hypothetical Third World War in the Fulda Gap, and into a fictional Iraqi campaign written before Operation Iraqi Freedom made the subject anything but hypothetical.

What separates ATF from a conventional real-time strategy game is that you command the way a commander actually does. You issue orders and standing operating procedures down a chain of command, and subordinate leaders execute them using their own judgement. You are not clicking individual vehicles through a battle; you are running a task force, and the quality of your plan shows. The engine went on to become the basis for Raging Tiger, The Falklands War and The Star and the Crescent.
