The Falklands War: 1982

Ten weeks in the South Atlantic, fought on the same topographic maps the British carried ashore.

In April 1982 Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands. Ten weeks later a British force that had crossed eight thousand miles of ocean, outnumbered in the air and operating at the end of an impossible supply line, had taken them back.

The Falklands War: 1982 is ProSIM’s first entirely historical title, and it was designed with Gary Bezant, a veteran British artillery officer. The maps are built from the same topographic data the British forces used. Orders of battle, weapon performance and the weather are drawn from the record, and the scenarios put you in front of the decisions the real commanders faced with the forces they actually had.

It extends the ATF engine with troop skill levels, dynamic weather and a much fuller treatment of indirect fire — the things that decided this particular war. It is an unusually hard campaign to fight well, which is precisely what makes it worth fighting.

“One of the highest forms of praise that one can offer a wargame, on computer or cardboard, is to say that it makes sense. This one makes sense, a lot of sense at that.”
